We Are Hiring (In Portland!) Social Media And Content Creation Assistant Design Team (Or both)11/30/2021 I always knew I’d need help up here, but wasn’t sure what the holes would be until we got here and boy am I experiencing the holes right now. I’m a swiss cheese version of myself. While we have the wonderful ARCIFORM team leading on the bulk of the renovation, and I have my team in LA running the blog and my production team still doing shoots down there – I am ready to hire some local help for ME and more importantly THAT FARM. I need help with daily in-person content on all platforms and help decorating the farmhouse. This could be one person or two, or four – here are the holes we are looking to fill:
I can’t imagine finding all these skills in one person but heck maybe you exist out there in Portland? The pay is based on experience, and it might be two part-time people or one full-time person, or more. No College education or corporate training necessary – just have basic computer/photo/social skills that can grow, a lot of creativity and passion for interior design content creation, be highly organized (as I am not) and a really good, positive attitude. Both of these people will spend so much time with me so chemistry is also important …but we’ll have fun, I promise Tell me and show me how you thrive, what you would create if you were in charge of documenting the farmhouse renovation, and give me a glimpse into your life. That means far more to me than any fancy education. To apply, email Mallory at [email protected] by next Friday 12/10. If you are applying for the social media position please send a fun design-based TikTok/reel example. Last year we asked you all to send us your favorite non-profits and charities and you guys came through with so many incredible recommendations. We rounded them all up here and have since updated with more awesome organizations to follow, get involved with, or donate to if you are able. We crowdsourced from you a list of mostly small non-profits (Thank you!) and researched even more. Of course, I don’t want to diminish the importance of in-person service and volunteering – I actually think the physical act is so much more meaningful than donating, but listen we all have different comfort levels, capacities, and situations right now and we wanted to create an easy and fun way to give. So here is the list that you gave us that we split into different categories just to make sifting through them a little easier. We wanted to make sure that you had the full list in case another one spoke to you or was in your area (or near to your heart). Housing Support (For Families And Individuals)The first few in this group are LA organizations that I’ve personally worked with, and then rest are crowdsourced from you! Pen and Napkin: We worked with them on the rummage sale and a surprise makeover for a family transitioning out of homelessness and I can tell you firsthand how passionate, amazing and generous they are. This year we helped get their projects going all over the nation, and if you want to learn about how YOU can get involved head here. They work with volunteer designers to furnish families transitioning out of homelessness. I love them. Women’s ResourcesThe Worthy Co: A social enterprise which means they invest 100% of every purchase into fulfilling their mission to employ and empower survivors of trafficking. Employs women that have been victims of sexual exploitation that make and sell jewelry, candles, and other goods. Racial and Social Justice Advocacy OrganizationsEquitable Giving Circle (Portland, OR): Supporting BIPOC through housing stability and community-based agriculture. Shifting the power structure has real change. Foster and Youth Programs (Including Arts!)My Friend’s Place: Providing a place for homeless or impoverished youth to drop in, be safe, and provide resources. They are real leaders in LA on helping impoverished (and especially unhoused) youth. Disease Research & Prevention, Mental Illness Support, and Disability ProgramsGary Sinese Foundation: They serve our nation by honoring our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need creating and supporting unique programs designed to entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen, and build communities. (From Ryann: My brother who was a Sergeant in the Army passed away this past August and this organization helped support my family with mental health resources and therapy. They are truly a great org. If you want to donate directly in my brother SGT Macrorie Miller’s name you can do so here). Food and Covid ResourcesJose Andreas World Central Kitchen: So many people recommended this one and it looks incredible. World Central Kitchen uses the power of food to empower communities and strengthen economies. They tap restaurants all over and have made a HUGE impact during covid. Community OutreachUnlocking DOORS: Focuses on helping ex-convicts transition into their second chance at life through collaborations with agencies and other organizations throughout the state to reduce recidivism. Animals And The EnvironmentIntersectional Environmentalist: This is an inclusive version of environmentalism that advocates for both the protection of people and the planet. It identifies the ways in which injustices happening to marginalized communities and the earth are interconnected. Phew. I know that we are missing so many (please leave in comments!). Pulling together this post was the most inspiring 8 hours of my 2020. Reading about each organization, their mission statement, who they are helping, and “how” made me (A.) want to join them and do more good in the world and (B.) made me feel optimistic about human beings and our future. Despite the shit show that was 2020 there a lot of people dedicating their time and resources to helping other people, and to make the world better (for all of us). If you can’t donate anything today, or in the future just reading about what they are doing, might put you in a good mood and give you hope. It did for me. If you can donate with me, thank you Lastly, obviously there are a MILLION non-profits out there and we would love to include more. We pulled these from the comments and DMs as well as those that we’ve personally worked with but we know there are so many more. But please leave others in the comments!! I’m going to be bookmarking this post (and feel free to send it to your friends who want to help but just aren’t sure how right now). xx The post Giving Tuesday – An Updated Crowdsourced List Of Incredible Non-Profits You Gave Us appeared first on Emily Henderson. Originally from Emily Henderson https://ift.tt/3mzmuHq Last year we put together an Etsy Gift Guide for the first time and you all loved it so we decided to bring it back this year with some fresh new picks. And since today is Cyber Monday a lot of them are on currently on sale. Enjoy! Gif guide season is still going strong, my friends. It is absolutely wild how fast this year went by and I scarcely remember the before times (i.e. living in a world pre-pandemic), but we’ve just about made it through a very challenging year so it feels good to be thinking about gift giving, holiday cheer, and warm fuzzy feelings. For my gift guide installment, I am so thrilled to share our picks from my personal favorite place to shop. Etsy has long been my go-to for almost all things. I’ve purchased everything from vintage furniture, to art, to pet supplies, to jewelry, to clothing from this site and perusing new items with a glass a wine in hand is a beloved past time of mine. What I love most about shopping on Etsy is that it’s a worldwide, easy to access marketplace where I can find new artisans and makers, vintage retailers, and small businesses to support. I also love that when you buy something on Etsy, you are usually buying something original, vintage, or made in small batches so you can avoid buying something thats ~everyone~ has. It’s truly a magical place to shop, so let’s get straight to it, shall we? 1. Neela Single Bulb Pendant: I love this light shop, studioPGRB, and if I had the need for a pendant in my home, I’d go for this one. If you are looking for a subtle but impactful pendant for your giftee, this exposed bulb one would be a great choice. 1. Antique Wood Basket: As we all know, every home needs vintage accents, so why not have it be an antique wood basket from the 1900s?? 1. Paris Medium Size Pochade (Painters Box): This is a vintage painters box so if you have an artist in your life that also loves vintage, this is your slam dunk. 1. Red Blue Kilim Pillow Cover: I LOVE THIS. I wish I had a place for it in my home. The color block is so fun. 1. Plague Doctor Art Print: You may recognize this print from Julie’s recent bathroom reveal. It is such an intriguing piece and perfect for someone who wants to liven up their walls with some interesting art. 1. Black Girl Art Print: Prints like this one are very special and I love the soft neutral colors that are very calming. 1. Bud Vase: These vases are so fun and would be loved by anyone who is into the post-modernism trend happening right now. 1. Handpainted Tumbler: I just discovered this shop and I want all everything. It is all handmade in Italy and you can just tell it’s made with intention and love. 1. Vintage Bentwood and Cane Child Size Bench: I am very attracted to this children’s bench. I know furniture may seem like an odd gift but it’s really not. As long as you know your giftee has a need/place for it, furniture is an AWESOME GIFT. Well folks, I hope you enjoyed this updated Etsy gift guide and let me know in the comments what your favorite Etsy shops are. Happy gifting! xx Looking for more gift guides? Originally from Emily Henderson https://ift.tt/3eYd0SU HAPPY THANKSGIVING WEEKEND! We sincerely hope you had a lovely holiday and are enjoying a relaxing long weekend. This week’s home tour via Architectural Digest is an absolute stunner. If you thought wood paneling should stay in the ’70s, think again!! In addition to jaw -dropping wood paneling handcrafted by artisans, with engraved triangle motifs, this home tour marries modern traditional elements with a ton of soul. From Emily: A princess dress designed by a mom to make the inside not be itchy or uncomfortable (as they all tend to be). I found this in a cute store in Nevada City and knew that Birdie would LOVE it. It’s more of a splurge than the cheap versions but super high quality and comfortable enough that she won’t just wear for dress up. Plus I love that it’s a small mom-run business From Ryann: I never thought I would be so into watching home improvement videos but OH MY does this Instagram account grab my attention. Any time one of their videos pops up on my feed I have to watch. There is something so satisfying about watching concrete being poured, bricks being laid, or a wall being demolished. It’s my new favorite account and I have none other than Mallory to thank for the recommendation.” Also From Ryann: Giving Tuesday is coming up and it reminded me of an organization that has helped my family this year. The Gary Sinese Foundation serves our nation by honoring our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need by creating and supporting unique programs designed to entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen, and build communities. My brother who was a Sergeant in the Army passed away this past August and this organization helped support my family with mental health resources and access to therapy. They are truly a great org. If you want to donate directly to the foundation in my brother SGT Macrorie Miller’s name you can do so here. From Mallory: If you enjoy being on the cutting edge of things – you’re gonna love this product. Have you ever considered how much waste is created by disposable lighters every year? It wasn’t something I thought about until Emily Bowser pulled out this rechargeable lighter at a shoot and its high tech. I was extra convinced when I went home for Thanksgiving and my mom had the same one. The way it lights a candle is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen (kind a looks like a taser) and it’s very fun to use. This would be an awesome stocking stuffer or small gift for somebody in your life. Or you can buy one for yourself like I just did From Jess: Sorry Em! We’re about to be twins:) Like a lot of you, I equally love seeing what fashion Em buys. So when I saw this coat in her latest gift guide I was like “mine!” Well, I got the Driftwood color but same same. I’ve been needing a raincoat, especially since the rain is a comin in LA, and thought this one was perfect and I just love the details. That’s all folks. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out our Black Friday Sales Post (this may be our best sales roundup ever). Originally from Emily Henderson https://ift.tt/3cWF1tU The height at which my eyes would roll at people who got their holiday gift shopping done before December 1st, could’ve hit the top of the moon. Preparation? I don’t know her. Let’s be honest, it was all jealously. But regardless I was convinced that I would never be one of those people. Then when I news of “the supply chain” hit (let’s all roll our eyes together), I didn’t want to be even more stressed out than I normally am. And y’all out of sheer will (and sending texts to my family, demanding they tell me what they wanted within the following 24hrs), I am 90% done and baby it feels gooooooooooooood. I say all this not to scare you or make you feel like a failure (as I have felt every year before this), but instead to really consider starting now if you haven’t… and will eventually need to, to reduce your stress. Plus I don’t know about you but I have at least 5 very important birthdays in December too. Ok, my holiday stress just came back a little. AH! So to really kick things off in helping you even more with your gift buying/idea-inducing journey, below are links to all of our guides and the best sellers from each. Might help you narrow down your choices. That’s the idea at least:) ALSO, don’t forget to shop your local stores! Last year we couldn’t so this year we should take advantage and support. Nothing like the thrill of finding something in person (plus there are probably some flea markets that happening in the next couple of weeks too:)) My Favorite Things – The Official “Emily” Gift Guide Just Landed: PART 1 Home DecorThe most highly anticipated gift guide of the year! While this one is focused on the decor Em has owned or used before in shoots to ensure quality, I loved getting to see it all together and get inside her decor brain. Basically, everything is a slam dunk gift for a design lover. The Best SellersEmbroidered Pillow: I know some people thought that gifting a pillow wasn’t normal but clearly that wasn’t the majority. I am here to tell you that a special pillow like this one would have me OVERJOYED! Seasonal Coverlet: This puppy is an EHD classic and is the perfect gift for someone who loves home decor, being cozy, and just enough pattern. We were so happy to see that so many of you agreed. Plus Schoolhouse is a treasure trove of items that if for some reason they say, already owned this beaut, there are a million more beautiful things they could get in exchange:) Striped Box: Whoever bought this for a loved one (or themselves) nailed it. This is the perfect box that adds just the right amount of modern, cool style to truly any room. Yes, even the bathroom:) Curved Arm Table Lamp: An unexpected winner! This lamp is the perfect balance between traditional and modern, all the while giving off the perfect soft filtered glow. As I sit writing this in my brother’s living room, this might be a really great “part two” gift. THANKSGIVING HACK: If you are at a family member’s house, take a look around at what they might need. Practical and thoughtful gift all wrapped up in one!! My Favorite Things Gift Guide Part 2: The New Fashion And “Old” Classics I LoveI am a sucker for fashion that Em loves. She always just puts together these effortlessly cool outfits that I want to also be wearing. Can y’all relate? Here are the pieces that you scooped up from her fashion gift guide. The Best SellersChunky Herringbone Chain Necklace: It’s THE necklace of 2021 and isn’t slowing down anytime soon…clearly. It’s got just the right amount of “chunk” to stand out, but simple enough to wear every day and easily layer with. Quarter-Zip Sweatershirt: We all obviously recognize this as the perfect sweatshirt, right?? I think all of us were convinced of this after seeing Em’s styling post. Hannah Denim Mini Dress: The denim dress that is both cute and flowy AND would look good on everyone. Not surprised this one was such a hit. Those sleeves are my favorite part:) The Layne Clog Mule in Leather: Comfort + Style = YES! After seeing Em in these pups, I (like many of you) were like, “I guess I’m into the clogs with cute socks look now.” Belt Bag: An Em classic that we simply all want and I’m so happy so many of you have or are gifting it this year:) My Favorite Kids Toys/Gifts Of All Time – What They Actually Play With All Year And Doesn’t End Up In A LandfillI loved that Em only talked about toys that were hits with her kids. The toy market is super overwhelming (just me?) so I can only imagine having this real-life review post is so nice. The Best SellersPLAYmake 4 in 1 Workshop: This might be the coolest kids toy I have ever seen and I’m thinking y’all agree. Giving a kid (recommended 6+) the ability and confidence to actually cut and build things has to be so good for them and their imagination. I love hearing about what Charlie makes with it and am always impressed. Lego Table: Let the organization commence! This table is not only an incredible gift for a kid/s but a great gift for you (the parent). They get to create in a designated area and you won’t step on any rogue legos. Win-win. Storytime Chess for Kids: A fun surprise top seller! But this game does look awesome and is basically the best version of chess for kids. Brian’s “Cool Dad” Gift Guide: All The Things He’s Been Marketed, Bought, And Actually Really LovesArguably one of the most useful gift guides of the year (aside from the next one:)). I really appreciated Brian’s tried and true list of things he really loves and uses. Some were things I wouldn’t have thought of and others were just awesome versions of some classic ideas. Here are what y’all connected with the most! The Best SellersSequoia Flannel Lined Down Vest: A good solid vest is never not going to be awesome to have. This one is just extra cool but super warm:) Long Sleeve Crewneck T-Shirt: Brian is a huge fan of these and wears them all of the time. A good basic isn’t always easy to find so it’s understandable that these were a big hit. Wood Vinyl Records Storage: When a storage problem is solved in a design-friendly way it’s a cause for celebration. So since so many of you have asked about our vinyl storage ideas this was understandably a hit! If you are looking for more head here. Wanna Give A Gift That Will Always Win?? Welcome to Caitlin (And Brenda’s) Tried & Tested Practical Gift GuideThis has probably been our most popular guide and for good reason. I think all of us want our gifts to be useful and make the lives of those receiving them better. Here’s what y’all bought the most… The Best SellersChom Chom Roller: Not surprised in the least that this magical pet hair removal tool is a best seller. If you know someone with a pet and they don’t own this, you will be a hero. Airtight Silicone Lids: Caitlin first raved about these and I second it. So happy that the masses agree! They are cute, take up very little space, and work great. Two-Pack Rolled-Trim Ankle Socks: Who doesn’t love cute socks?! While a good pair of butter socks is great, it’s looking like people are into giving stylish everyday socks (which honesty I prefer). Our 10 Favorite Personalized Gifts They’ll Actually Love (And No, It’s Not A Photo Book)There really is something uniquely special about a personalized gift. But finding one that is guaranteed to be a hit can be a little hard. Fortunately, Emily had some great ideas and these were your favorites. The Best SellersEmbroidered/Monogrammed Sweatshirt: Me too! Me too! This one was probably my favorite. I think I’m going to order one for myself. It’s so sweet and simple but also pretty cool. Happy we are on the same page:) Packing Cubes: Another awesome practical gift for the traveler in your life. So glad all of you thought it was a good of a gift as we did. Leather USB Keychain: Useful, simple, and GREAT for so many different types of people on your list. Secret Santa anyone??? With Endless Options, Here Are The 5 Gifts We Each Would LOVE To Get This YearWe love hearing what’s really on people’s wish lists so we wanted to let you in on ours. We figured the more ideas the better! But these are what you really resonated with… Top SellersCandle: Nothing makes me happier than everyone who gets to experience this candle for the first time!! So whether it was for you or a loved one, enjoy:) TechLoom Wave Hybrid Running Shoe: A fresh pair of sneaks to replace the likely very loved current ones is SUCH a good gift. Mal always has amazing recs, is a workout lover, and clearly has style. So everyone who got a pair is very lucky! Pan: This VERY cool and hip pan around is still top dog! I know I still want one because they are as pretty as they are functional. Such a killer gift and no surprise that it was a winner this year. Sleeping Mask: A little bit of pampering is always a wonderful gift (especially for those who don’t treat themselves usually). And with Caitlin’s glowing endorsement, no one over here is shocked by its popularity. Ok, that’s it! I hope that you are able to get some great gifts via some great deals either here on the interwebs or in your local shops. Love you, mean it. I’m here today to present you with my magnum opus: the best list of Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales ever compiled. I’m not joking here – this bad boy was compiled with your tastes and preferences in mind. (Speaking collectively here, but like…you get it.) Here’s the deal: I stared at a bunch of data and pulled all the sales that you, my beloved pals, are most likely to enjoy. There’s SO MUCH going on this weekend on the internet, so hopefully, this can help you wade through all the muck a little bit. I’ll be here and updating this post every day with new info as it hits my inbox…so come back and visit me, yeah? And as always, feel free to drop your own business’ sale or any recommendations in the comments – we’d love to support ya! PS. I know this is a big list of things to buy. That does not mean you SHOULD buy anything on it. (This is a warning for you, but it is also the sentence I’ve been repeating to myself for the past week.) Only grab what you need or what you’re planning to gift – your wallet and the planet will thank you. OK. NOW. Let the sales begin!!! Home & DecorAllModernDates: A fun mystery! Originally from Emily Henderson https://ift.tt/3HUeA6e Last year, each team member did a big ole gift guide of the things we had our eyes on/already owned and loved (Jess, Ryann, Caitlin, and Mallory). It was extremely fun and we may or may not have gently sent them out to our loved ones (ya know, just in case they wanted any ideas). This year, we thought to make things A LOT simpler and more digestible, we would each pick 5 all-star products that are high on our lists (and that likely someone in your life would love too). Honestly I couldn’t wait to see what each gal was going to send through. The options out there can feel almost never ending, amiright?? But I got to learn a super cool new thing about Ryann! As always we hope this is helpful and alleviates the stress of getting the perfect gift for even just one lucky person on your list. Let’s see what we’ve got cookin for ya. Jess1. Despite how cliche it is, all I want to be is cozy. Enter this sweater. I love how this both looks like a sweater and a light jacket with its faux fur collar! Plus it has that really cool shoulder detail that gives it more architectural structure than your average cardigan. It’s hip and yet simple enough to be timeless. O and if you have a Gen Zer in your life, Lisa Says Gah (the store where this sweater is from) is STOCKED with extremely trendy (but quality) things they would absolutely love. 2. I know I’ve talked about this candle before but it’s just my favorite and keeps selling out! The smell is intoxicating and really can work in any season because of its beautifully complex mix of ingredients. It’s the greatest, under $40, and I want a lifetime supply. 1. I’ve had this necklace pinned for months now! How cool is it?! I’m usually not one to go for color in my jewelry but I just love the subtle colorful stones. I would likely opt for the longer chain size (they have multiple length options) because I’m not a big fan of how chokers look no me. Otherwise, I think it’s just the right balance for bold yet neutral for everyday wear. 2. This one is a big splurge but it’s SO pretty (and vegan!). Aside from the beautiful color and texture, you can wear it as a belt bag, sling, or shoulder bag. Basically, it can go with any outfit and I really really want a belt bag (late to the party but got there:)). I just love the idea of wearing it with jeans and a white t-shirt. Effortlessly cool. 3. I’m a multiple wearing ring person but misplaced (or was robbed of, long story) most of my rings on a trip I took back in 2019. I really want to start building my collection back up because I love wearing both stackable and statement rings together. This one has my name written ALL over it but I would wear anything sold by this company. They have tons of options and really amazing necklaces too. I highly recommend you check them out! RyannCordless Vaccum | Service Gift Cards 1. I haven’t stopped thinking about Caitlin’s practical gift guide and want like 90% of what’s on her list. My top choice is of course the Dyson Cordless Vacuum. Our vacuum is completely toast and our living room rug is suffering immensely because of it. I need one that will be able to pick up the stubborn dirt and dog hair my pup tracks inside daily and rumor has it this guy can get the job done. 2. Again, Caitlin’s practical gift guide is absolutely fire. I love her idea of gifting a groupon gift card because you can get sooo many services and the older I get the more personal maintenance is both enticing and necessary. Carry-On Suitcase | Riding Boot | Wallet 1. I am traveling out of the country for the first time next year so it is high time I get some proper luggage. I’ve done a lot of research and would be absolutely thrilled to get this carry-on as a present. It is sleek, has all the necessary compartments to keep me organized, and has a ton of raving reviews. 2. A few months ago I started volunteering at a horse therapy ranch and it’s my favorite thing I have done this year. I am a horse girl through and through so next year my goal is to start taking horseback riding lessons. Of course, this means I need a proper pair of boots and I have my sights set on these paddock riding boots but because I am such a novice, I’d love other recs or opinions! 3. I lost my wallet earlier this year (actually, I swear it disappeared) and have since been using a plastic bag in its place. No, I am not joking. I am at a place where I just want quality long-lasting things so I refuse to buy a cheap wallet that I’ll want to replace in a year. I’ve been looking for a wallet that I’ll keep for a very long time and I’d be lying if I said I haven’t been coveting a Louis Vuitton for as long as I can remember. I’d never pay full price for one (or expect anyone else to for that matter) but this is on sale so in case Santa is listening, this is #1 on my wishlist! Mallory1. I’ve needed a curling iron with this width for forever but just have never pulled the trigger. So just so you know, hair tools are an awesome gift that people don’t always think to buy for themselves!! PSST, you could also give the mermaid hair tool as a gift because me and the EHD team agree it’s VERY fun to play with. 2. The best gift I’ve ever received is a GOOD cast iron, but the next gift I’d love would be a solid nonstick (pans are a weird thing to buy for yourself IMO) – this one has insane reviews and everyone is constantly talking about it, so I would LOVE to own one myself. Plus it comes in a bunch of cool colors. I love the blue one and the green one:) 1. I’ve linked this shoe before and I’ll do it again because it’s literally the ONLY shoe I wear. I’m not kidding. The APL techloom bliss. Unless I’m leaving my house to go out somewhere nice, I am wearing these shoes. They’re slip-on so they’re insanely easy to get on and off but they still stay on your feet if you’re working out. They’re truly the most comfortable thing I have ever placed around my foot so they put every other shoe to shame. I have the white ones (they’re all washable btw) so after a year and a half of wearing and working out in them almost on the daily, they’re doing okay but it would be nice to have another pair to give them a little break since they are working HARD. I love the shoes in this blue color. 2. I am a total sucker for patterned pants and I’ve been eyeing these for an eternity. I have a dress version (that’s much more colorful) and the amount of times I’ve worn is astronomical. So, it’s kind of a sure-fire bet that I would wear this pattern a lot because it’s SO fun and you feel very cool putting it on. Also honorable mention to these that just came out too:) 3. I know I already gave a sneaker link, but I also have been very into the white sneaker as a ‘going out’ shoe…These are super cute and I’ve had my eye on them for a while…plus they’re leather so they’re easier to keep clean:) Also, I’m very into these Madewell ones with this little pop of yellow – it’s my favorite color & these are only $50! Caitlin1. I recently discovered this brand and OH. MY. GOSH. I am obsessed! Jennifer makes lots of things (masks, dresses, accessories – I’m also obsessed with this bow) but her bread-and-butter offering is the “quick escape coat,” which is a printed swing-style masterpiece. This champagne print is so fun and happy for all occasions (brunch! Birthday parties! Bridal showers! New Years!) and I can totally imagine loving ANYTHING on her site for years to come. I’ve discovered a ton of cool female-founded and owned clothing companies over the past year but this one is at the top of my list – SO GOOD. 2. Speaking of female-founded companies…of course I need to include my all-time favorite shoe shop!!! I have too many pairs of Charlotte Stone shoes to count (and will happily vouch for the following styles: Paz, Marlo, Sal, Bonnie, Lenu, Gloria, and Dolly) but I’m a huge fan of these velcro sneakers. They’re fun and bright and they seem like a nice alternative to all the clogs I’ve collected. (I think this link still gives some $$ off if you’re interested in being my shoe twin!) Sleeping Mask | Necklace Charm | Titanium Brush Dryer 1. That this mask doesn’t have a perfect five-star rating is BEYOND MY COMPREHENSION. My skin is like a desert (I have the sand flakes on my right cheek to prove it) and this is the only thing that REALLY works. It’s this awesome gel consistency and it leaves my skin feeling SO SMOOTH and hydrated. I know it’s technically for sleeping, but I also always apply it before plane rides or on days that I’m just going bare-faced and it’s made such a big difference in my skin texture. December marks my one year anniversary of discovering/using this product and I will never go without again!! STOCK ME UP, SANTA 2. I have been wearing the same two necklaces (this one and this one) for about 2 years non-stop (yes, I’m one of those weird people who never take their jewelry off) and I thiiiink I’m finally ready to change it up. I love literally everything Catbird makes – their website is so fun to poke around, even if you’re not in the purchasing mood – but their sweet and little charms just take the cake for me!! This one feels like a nice replacement for my fortune cookie, yeah? 3. YUP. Rolls Royce of blowdryers right here. When I was on my friends’ bachelorette trip back in May, another gal let me borrow hers and I’ve been eyeing one ever since. They’re currently on CRAZY sale ($119 + an extra $20 off, down from $179!) so I may end up just buying this for myself. Only good hair days ahead, baby!!! It’s me, Jess! Again, hope this was fun and helpful and now we all know what an “Escape Coat” is:) We also hope you have a wonderful day off with your loved ones tomorrow and then see you back on Friday for our annual (and always entertaining, thanks to Caitlin) Black Friday Sale Roundup post. Love you, mean it. Opening Image Credits: Design by Arlyn Hernandez | Photo by Sara Liggoria-Tramp | From: Arlyn’s Warm (& Sort of Last-Minute DIYed) Holiday Reveal The post With Endless Options, Here Are The 5 Gifts We Each Would LOVE To Get This Year appeared first on Emily Henderson. Originally from Emily Henderson https://ift.tt/3E0aZ48 This year my “gift guide” is really more a “list of stuff I love and maybe you or someone you know will, too’, with the hopes is that it’s useful to you. May we all buy better purchases with less regret, right? After a year of not spending hardly any money on clothes, besides sweats, I dabbled back into fashion recently but I’m trying to do it more responsibly and buying pieces I know I’ll wear for years. Buying vintage and locally made is ideal, but not all of us can do that – so here is a list of some of my favorite fashion finds that I either purchased this year or really really want myself. New This Year:1. Chore Coat: This is the perfect high quality weight that layers so well, is a happy blue (which I need in Oregon) and makes almost any casual outfit feel a bit cooler. 1. Leather Belt: So pretty and looks good even over sweaters. 1. Yellow Fleece Snap Button Jacket: I’ve had the navy version of this for a couple years and love it. But mustard really pops (I love how the PNW vibe is so trendy right now – making it very easy for me). 1. Hannah Denim Mini Dress: Such a cute denim dress for all seasons, so easy to wear and layer, and room for plenty of holiday food underneath. Things I Want:1. Plaid Dress: I have this dress in a different colorway and its just so good – it drapes in a really flattering way, with big puffy sleeves that keep their shape and pleats. If I have some holiday shoots I’m going to get this for sure. 3. Jean Dress: This dress is so flattering – it holds you in and shapes you really nicely. Size up if you are in between sizes (mine fit me when I got it, but one burrito/beer later and it was too tight, so I returned it to size up). 1. Jean Vest: I just got this and my long sleeve T-shirts never looked so cool. 3. Plaid Blouse: The sweet ruffled sleeve and tuxedo front are pulled back with this casual plaid pattern. 1. Shimmer Striped Mini Dress: Not bad for a cute little holiday number. 1. Over The Knee Boot: I don’t think my lifestyle warrants these boots, but for those of you going out to be seen, these over the knee boots are incredible. Now for more classic go-to’s. The Classics – Clothing That Is ALWAYS Practical And Timeless1. Jean Jacket: Y’all it’s been around forever, it’s not going anywhere and now it’s at Target (legit collab with LEVIS). Brian and I both have it which is annoying because he usually wins getting to wear it as I have more backups. 1. Dr Martens: I’ve had these in brown for two years. At first, I was hesitant about them, but my friend Suzanne convinced me that I could pull them off so I went for it. I still LOVE them and wear them all the time. It gets increasingly hard for me to recommend anything that I don’t think will last for years or wear the heck out of, so I hope this list is helpful – even while a lot of it is on the splurgier side. We’ll have more affordable gift ideas for everyone coming up soon xx The post My Favorite Things Gift Guide Part 2: The New Fashion And “Old” Classics I Love appeared first on Emily Henderson. Originally from Emily Henderson https://ift.tt/3cHBdMR I still remember that day 4 years ago… where I sobbed in the shower and wished that I had ‘The Handbook to Renovation’. I pitched it to my publisher the next day. And just four years later it’s ready for pre-order here:) Today. UNBELIEVABLE. It’s like I’ve been pregnant for so long, working on it so consistently that I kinda forgot that there will be a baby at some point. At the time, in 2017, my level of renovation frustration was so high and I screamed silently about a hole in the information market that demanded to be filled. They say that you don’t choose to write a book, you have to be compelled to. But having an online daily site about design could scratch that itch, right? But it doesn’t because you want it all in ONE PLACE (which is also when we reorganized the website to be more by categories of rooms for inspiration/information and resources rather than just a blog scroll). This new book, The New Design Rules is a renovation handbook – inspired by the 1950s ‘Better Homes and Garden’ tab binder that we all love, but with photos of beautiful rooms and inspirational rule-breaking creativity. You’ll learn the construction vocabulary, distilled renovation process (and my preferences) with the intent to communicate effectively with your contractors so you don’t get man-splained, make as many mistakes, fight with your partner, and feel like a total failure. Let’s be done with all of that. And yet it’s full of beautifully styled inspirational shots of homes – kitchens, bathrooms, living, mud and bedrooms, office, basements, AND MORE. You’ll learn the “rules” so you don’t feel dumb and then BOOM you’ll be inspired to break them – thus making a CHOICE, not a MISTAKE. I grew 100 times in creativity while researching, shooting, and writing this book. I feel so brave and empowered now and I want you to feel the same way, too. So while the book isn’t out yet you can pre-order it here if you’d like (and no, you won’t get it before Christmas). In fact, if you are planning on buying it (thank you thank you thank yo) consider pre-ordering it as the publishing supply chain is nuts and they are gauging how much they should print based on pre-orders. So basically if we don’t pre-order enough then likely it will sell out fast. And fun fact, Target has an exclusive edition with an extra chapter on home hacks, but you can also get it from the usual suspects – Bookshop.org, Amazon, Barnes & Noble (just sadly not at your local bookseller yet unless they are listing it online). OK WITHOUT FURTHER ADO – let’s get into “The Cover’ conversation. ROUND ONE Cover OptionsSo here’s how it works. Sara, Velinda, and I gave them all of our photos (like over 1k new photos) and the publisher chooses what they think will be a dynamic cover image. They know what people gravitate towards when buying design books. This shot is from Ben Mendansky‘s artist studio in LA and it’s amazing. I LOVED it. His place is insane. I liked the font, but my biggest issue was that I felt that it should be my own work/home on the cover – not because I was jealous but more like I was fearful that people would assume it’s my work and it’s Ben’s. But the world has seen all the shots of my homes so how do you keep it fresh? It’s still fun to see the differences in the font and how it changes everything. We worked with graphic designer La Tricia Watford who also designed Styled and she is WONDERFUL. And patient:) What I told them early on is that I want the color of the cover to pop but not be loud. I want the spine to be easy to style/integrate into a shelf and no metallic/reflective foil in the spine. I loved seeing all these options. So then they chose a few of my own designs to play and mocked them up as the cover, while I planned a reshoot. New Cover Mockup, Round 2I liked these a lot, but I had two issues with them: A. My readers (you, THANK YOU) have seen this room a lot, and B. I wanted more color. Nothing too bright but just not so annoyingly neutral. Then they tried these two because I LOVE them for the sake of color and style (and it’s our EHD work) and I almost went with the one when I realized there was a solution… But first, she played with more mountain house living room shots which were fun to see but the style seemed very specific and modern/contemporary, and I didn’t want to turn off people with more traditional style homes. I wanted more color, pop, and fun at the same time being approachable and telling the story of mild remodeling OR renovation. And I wanted to play with the fonts a bit more – make it a bit cleaner and more modern. I loved how La Tricia stacked the text in that one, and I loved the shot, the angle, the negative space. But I wanted more color and frankly, I wanted something you guys haven’t seen before. So I called Sara and she came up to reshoot specifically for the cover – with more color. THE FINAL COVER!!!Oh how I do love it!!! I moved my Nordic Knots rug in here, put my favorite vintage blue painting above the fireplace, and added a couple of other pops of blue in the throw blankets – that’s it, but it felt more like ‘me’ and a bit happier, more approachable, and punchier. I have no idea what cover would have sold the best, but I hope and think it’s this one because even those that aren’t into color or busy patterns might be drawn to the blue with all the neutrals. Who knows They also added ‘renovate’ to the description because it’s really both. I really hope you guys like this book. I’m CRAZY proud of the work that my amazing team did – Sara and Velinda were integral to the photography and production, as well as Erik, Shade, Hina, Veronica, Julie, Grace, and writer Jessica Cumberbatch, designer La Tricia Watford and of course Angelin Borsics, my incredible book editor. And maybe even most importantly are all the amazing incredible designers and homeowners whose creativity fills the pages. I will go off on these people MUCH MORE in the coming months and we’ll be featuring all of them here on the blog. We feature rooms designed by real risk-takers, rule-breakers, and incredible DIY-ers. I feel so lucky to have learned from these talents. Looking through this book I feel comforted by the vocabulary that I now know (and you will too) and absolutely delighted by the beautiful photography and design inspiration in each room. I really, really hope you like it Sneak peeks coming right after the holidays. xx Image Credits: Cover Photos by Sara Ligorria-Tramp | Ben Medansky’s Home: Styled by Velinda Hellen and Erik Kenneth Stalberg | Em’s Portland Project: Styled by Em, Brady Tolbert, and Emily Bowser | Em’s Mountain House: Styled by Em The post MY SECOND BOOK IS FINALLY AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER (Wanna See The Cover And Title?) appeared first on Emily Henderson. Originally from Emily Henderson https://ift.tt/3DKIbg4 It’s that time of the week again and we’re here to deliver you all the goods (and some great pre-Black Friday sales that are AWESOME). Can you guys believe turkey day this coming week?? Hopefully, you have some great plans to spend it with your loved ones this year. Well, enough with the small talk, we’re ready when you are, so scroll on down and let’s get to linking. This week’s home tour is a new reveal from one of our awesome contributors, Albie! She finished her One Room Challenge ‘flex lounge’ space that’s VERY hardworking and functional. So if you need some inspo for a multi-purpose room then head over here to check it out. From Emily: You might remember last year I begged my more beauty/smell expert friends to find me a perfume that’s great and they both agreed that Kai smells good on literally everyone and nobody doesn’t not like it. The first time I put it on I snuggled up to watch a movie with Brian and kids and everyone, EVERYONE, was like ‘mama you smell goooooood’. It’s not overpowering, just a nice floral/gardenia scent that I LOVE. I bought the lotion and the rollerball and after 1 year of wearing it, it’s still going strong. Also From Emily: A reader linked this dress as a good Thanksgiving outfit in the comments in last week’s Link Up & I wore it for our holiday Target shoot a few weeks back and can attest that it is GREAT. It’s a comfortable, cute corduroy material, has a great cut, and is awesomely relaxed (perfect for Thanksgiving). I love a balloon sleeve & high neck (with a ruffle) combo, so this totally fits the bill. From Mallory: Readers, meet my favorite sweater, sweater, these are the EHD readers. It’s a Madewell button-down beauty that makes it so you don’t have to choose between a comfy cardigan or a pullover sweater. Very casually cute and a totally great everyday look, I am very into it. Plus, it’s originally $99 but now it’s on sale for $60 and then you can get it for $48 if you use code OHJOY. I know… so it’s half off! Enjoy this good quality sweater at a better quality price Happy Sunday! From Ryann: I am really into clothing rental services like Rent The Runway especially for big events like weddings. I don’t like buying clothes I’ll likely not wear again so renting is my go-to for formal occasions. My friend recently told me about Nuuly which is another rental service that is more geared for everyday clothing so I decided to try it. I love it and they have sooo many brands to choose from plus if you really love something you can purchase it for a discounted price. It’s $88 a month and you can rent up to 6 pieces! If you like to try before you buy or even just try out new trends I think you will love it as much as I do. From Caitlin: I just learned that one of my childhood best friends (we were ice skating teammates in 2001!) is like, AN INCREDIBLE CROCHET-ER. She’s my age and the mom of five under the age of 8 so I have NO IDEA where she found the time to learn this skill but I have just been BLOWN AWAY by her Instagram. If you’re in the mood to support a small business, give her a look (she doesn’t know I’m writing this, but her Facebook did say that she had a “very quick” turnaround time, so let’s send some orders her way!!!). My favorites: the cutest festive bonnet I’ve ever seen, this sweet little cardigan, this awesome bobble sweater (very Madewell for minis), and this full-on unicorn stuffy!!! From Jess: Historically, Les Bunge refuses to give my brother and I ANY ideas for gift gifts that he might want. So when he called me and said he wanted this gift I was PUMPED. All he wants is the Ove Glove (I definitely got him something else, don’t worry). But let me tell you that the man wouldn’t shut up about how amazing they were (I guess he used them at an Airbnb or something). Arlyn also has raved about them so y’all, I think this is an affordable slam dunk gift for anyone on your list that likes to cook. Also From Jess: The best news just came out! Tabitha Brown has her own kids show on YouTube called Tab Time. It’s meant for kids 3-5 (and their parents) and I can’t imagine a more wonderful person to be spreading love and creativity. The show doesn’t officially launch until Dec 1st but watch the trailer and subscribe now! SOME SALES HAPPENING THIS WEEK:Annie Selke has been an EHD go-to for rugs for a long time. For every discount you receive (up to 20% off sitewide), you’ll have the option to give a donation from your discount to Star Route Farm’s food access work. Star Route Farm, this year’s Kinder Kitchens partner, is an organic farm on a mission to confront the inequities in our current food system through crop donation and investment in an organic regional food movement. In partnership with food pantries, mutual aid groups and organizations throughout New York State working to end food insecurity within often overlooked communities, Star Route Farm directly donates the vast majority of their harvest to those in need. 100% of all donations from the Kinder Kitchens sale will benefit Star Route Farm’s Food Access work. Material is hoping to surpass their donation amount from this initiative last year, which was $20k. Jess has the pan, knives and board and loves them all so much. Industry West: An EHD favorite that is giving 20% Off Black Friday Sale sitewide plus an additional 10% off trade favorites! Truly their stuff is awesome so go check em out. Macy’s is starting Black Friday early, so check out their deals here. Our picks would be this air fryer for $60 (originally $135) and this $8 turkey roasting rack (originally $30)…the turkey one is very timely. Nordstrom has some Black Friday deals going on now through the actual day. Our picks are: The Always Pan set ($45 off!!), APL shoes (Mallory gave these to her mom last year and she loves them…plus they’re RARELY on sale), or this cute smeg toaster that’s 25% off. Two new things were added: these Food52 silicone lids we’ve always loved and Caitlin’s over the sink drying rack! That’s all for this week! Everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving – we are grateful for all of YOU!
